Weapons kill people and planet!
Why does military expenditure continue to rise whilst the fight against climate change needs financing?
With the Eurosatory arms fair coming up in June, we would like to share with you our campaign and actions around this event. Eruosatory is one fo the largest arms fairs in the world, and it is happening between the 13th and 17th June 2022 in Villepinte, near Paris. Three months after the publication of the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Eurosatory 2022 takes place in a context of climate emergency.
The buzzword is ecology! Eurosatory will present new, greener products, but this is just greenwashing! The arms industry is bad for the environment, it produces greenhouse gases (GHG) and pollutes. Manufacturers will also sell weapons for use in future conflicts related to the climate and resource crisis - climate change is seen as one of the biggest security threats we face. Weapons that claim to be green are not the answer, we need to address the root causes of climate change: profit and exponential growth, the use of scarce resources and fossil fuels and the production of GHGs.
The answer is not to make drones that run on solar energy or biodegradable ammunition! We need to solve the problems of climate change instead of reacting with military solutions to the problems we create.
Take action from your home by signing this petition : "Stop excluding military pollution from climate agreements".
"Militaries are significant emitters of CO2 and must no longer be seen as exempt from commitments to reduce emissions". For further informations visit the Conflict and environment Observatory website.
